Training Services is part of the Assistive Computer Technology Unit (ACT) and responsible for providing training and learning opportunities to AMAC Members. Training is an essential part of AMAC services. Our training philosophy is focused on improving access to knowledge using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). |

When is training offered?

What kind of training does AMAC provide?
Core training subjects offered at AMAC include:
- NEON Database Training
- AMAC 101/ Alternative Media Overview
- Assistive Technology
- Software Training (specific to products offered through AMAC)
- Hardware Training
- Other popular Assistive Technology
- Downloading Software Video
AMAC is also committed to raising awareness regarding Alternative Media and disability services. We are routinely asked to provide training and participate in:
- Faculty Training
- Disability Day Events
- Presentations for classes with interests in the disability field (e.g. education, physical and occupational therapy, social work, etc.)
Drop-In Training
An AMAC trainer is present on campus for a full day 9am - 4 pm. Students are encouraged to stop in to ask questions and to get quick and focused training for their needs as they relate to AMAC products and services.
What the DSP does for Drop-In training
- Secure a room with internet access
- Send an email* to students and/or staff about the Drop-In training.
- The AMAC trainer will send an email to the students as well but often times it helps to have the DSP communicate since students are already familiar with the DSP.
Students
The students are asked to respond to the email invitation and give a general idea of when they plan to stop by. The schedule is purposely left open to accommodate the students' schedules.

- AMAC process - process for ordering books through DSP office
- Student Center - download books, software and accessing training online
- Book file - downloading, unzipping and opening/reading
- Software - downloading and using
- Hardware - activating and using
How can I access training with AMAC?
AMAC recognizes that training needs vary from member to member. In order to meet the varied needs of its members, AMAC continually researches ways to access training which suits individual member needs.
Training formats currently offered and currently being researched include:
- Regularly scheduled training in Athens at the AMAC offices
- Regional Training at member sites
- Video/Multimedia Training
- Remote/Virtual Training
- Printed Materials
