Production Unit Overview

  • Mission and Goals

The Production Unit is responsible for fulfilling orders for Alternative Media. Our goals are to fill orders quickly with high-quality materials that are appropriate to the students needs. Production works closely with other AMAC units to ensure our products and services are effective, and we continue to look for ways to improve the way we work.

  • Background

The production unit began accepting orders in July, 2006. As of July, 2008, we have received over 4,700 orders. The volume of orders for the next school year is expected to be double that of our first year of operation.

We have primarily produced PDF files inhouse and using a vendor, while also receiving PDF and Word files from publishers. We maintain a membership with RFB&D and have provided students with 1,000 audiobooks to date.

We are in the process of adding capacity to produce XML files compatible with the DAISY standard.

  • Organization

The production manager oversees the operation of the unit and supervises the staff of digital media specialists. There are three specialists, including one lead position, and an additional 50% position shared with the ACT unit.
